Connecticut Republican Statement Concerning Attorney General Tong's Plan To Continue Child Mutilation and Permit Boys in Women's Sports

February 7, 2025

MIDDLETOWN - Attorney General William Tong’s decision to support the continuation of harmful surgery and other dangerous medical services on minors while denying women’s rights in sports is dangerous to children and risks the loss of federal health funding for Connecticut families, according to State Republican Chairman Ben Proto Friday.

“Attorney General Tong is either sadly misinformed or a prisoner to an ideology that rejects science, common sense and fairness,” said Proto. “We need to help children with gender dysphoria and confusion, we need to restore the law which demands boys and girls play sports with genders they were assigned at birth. Yet Attorney General Tong has his own vision of reality and families in Connecticut won’t stand for it.”

Proto said the new executive order offered by the Trump administration is needed given that Connecticut hospitals continue to offer such care despite the lack of clear data on its effectiveness. Wednesday the President issued another executive order that would restore Title IX and punish school districts that do not comply.

Proto further added that Connecticut law that keeps secret from the public the amount of taxpayer money that is used for gender alteration surgery for those who are in Connecticut prisons is a disservice to Connecticut taxpayers. “While we should respect every individual’s right to their private healthcare choices, Connecticut taxpayers have a right to know how much of their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent on these surgeries and medical procedures” said Proto.

“Unfortunately, Attorney General Tong, and the Connecticut Democrats are so ensconced in social engineering, that they are blind, not only to the science and medical realities, but to the will of the people and, more importantly to the law they took an oath to uphold” continued Proto.

Proto challenged Tong and all elected Democrats who support gender surgeries and the issuing of puberty blockers to present any independent data to support the baseless claim that children who don’t receive these procedures were more prone to suicide and to acknowledge these practices are now being abandoned throughout the world.

In addition, Proto challenged Tong, Governor Lamont, and the Democrats to explain to Connecticut voters why they believe that biological males should be allowed to compete against girls and women in athletic events that are meant only for females.

President Trump’s Executive Order setting in place that males play against males and females play against females, not only makes sense and creates an equal playing field (literally and figuratively) but is now the law of the land.

“Why should our daughters and granddaughters be put in danger of injury from being forced compete against biological males who are bigger, stronger, and faster than they are, to lose the opportunity to stand on the winner’s podium, to receive the accolades they should be enjoying, to have the opportunity to receive scholarships that will help further their educations and futures, all to satisfy the woke progressive agenda that wants to fundamentally change our society and once again relegate women to second class citizens” concluded Proto.
