On July 1, 2025, Gov. Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff and remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in honor and remembrance of Iowa Senator Rocky De Witt.

De Witt, of Lawton, Iowa, was a career 22-year employee of MidAmerican Energy before he joined the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. De Witt was elected to the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors in 2016 where he served as board chair. In 2022, De Witt was elected to the Iowa Senate as the representative for District 1.

In January 2024, De Witt announced a pancreatic cancer diagnosis while serving in the Senate. He passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
