Governor Abbott Activates State Emergency Response Resources Ahead Of Weekend Weather Threats Across Texas

From: Texas Governor Greg Abbott
July 11, 2025

Governor Abbott today directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources ahead of severe weather and flash flooding threats expected over the weekend.

"Texas continues to stand ready to deploy all necessary resources to support Texans as severe storms move across our state,” said Governor Abbott. "Today, I activated state emergency response resources to support local officials and first responders ahead of severe weather and flash flooding threats starting tonight and through the weekend. I urge Texans to remain weather-aware and heed the guidance of state and local officials to ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones."

According to the National Weather Service, severe storms are forecast to bring the possibility of heavy rainfall capable of producing flash flooding across large portions of Northwest Texas, far West Texas, North Texas, the Big Country, Permian Basin, Concho Valley, and the Hill Country beginning in the overnight hours and continuing through the weekend.

At the Governor’s direction, TDEM has activated Texas A&M Task Force 1 swiftwater rescue boat squads from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to support local storm response operations.

These preparations come in addition to ongoing operations in flood-impacted communities across the state, where response and recovery resources remain actively engaged.

Texans are urged to stay informed, follow instructions from local officials, and monitor forecast information. Texans can check road conditions at DriveTexas.org, locate flood safety information at TexasReady.gov, access flood information at TexasFlood.org, and find general preparedness tips at tdem.texas.gov/prepare.
