RICHMOND, VA – Governor Glenn Youngkin on Sep 13th, participated in the ribbon cutting of a new regional headquarters for CNX Resources, which extracts clean natural gas from waste methane in coal seams throughout southwest Virginia. The expansion will house 75 employees, which will increase the facility’s square footage 85% and create eight new jobs.
“On Sep 13th, we celebrate CNX Resources as they renew their commitment to Virginia,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “CNX brings to life our vision for an all-American, all-of-the-above approach to fueling Virginia’s unprecedented economic growth and energy needs, leveraging Southwest Virginia’s rich coal mines to produce abundant, affordable, and lower emissions natural gas. By opening this state-of-the-art facility right here in Richlands, they’re betting on the future of energy production in the Commonwealth and their commitment to the Appalachian region.”
“CNX Resources is proud to be in Richlands and to be expanding our operations across Southwest Virginia,” said CNX President of New Technologies Ravi Srivastava. “A little less than a year ago, we held a ceremonial groundbreaking on this project and today, you are seeing the culmination of the collective efforts that got us to where we are today. We extend a thank you to Governor Youngkin and his team; the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority; the Town of Richlands; Tazewell County; and others who have helped make this project a success. We hope that by relocating our Virginia headquarters here, we will not only stimulate the local economy, but also be an asset to this community. This region is critical to the continued growth of our company, our employees and our vendors and we are proud to call it home.”
“We celebrate CNX Resources’ success providing energy for Virginia’s homes and businesses. The future prosperity of our Commonwealth depends upon developing all energy sources to keep the economy growing,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick.
“On behalf of the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA), we would like to congratulate CNX Resources, Tazewell County, and the Town of Richlands on the expansion of the company's Virginia regional headquarters to the Town of Richlands,” said Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority Executive Director Jonathan Belcher. “VCEDA was pleased to work with the company, locality, and state on the project, including a $900,000 loan approved by VCEDA to the Tazewell County Industrial Development Authority to assist with the real estate improvements. Having great companies like CNX in our region demonstrates why it is such a great place to do business and expand.”
“I am grateful that CNX Resources chose to expand their operation in Southwest Virginia,” said Senator Travis Hackworth. “The new regional headquarters in The Town of Richlands will provide positive economic growth to the entire community. I'm grateful for the partnership Virginia enjoys with CNX Resources. They've already been a great asset to the region and I'm looking forward to seeing how they continue to grow.”
“I am thrilled CNX is opening their regional headquarters in Richlands,” said Delegate Will Morefield. “Their commitment to our region is reassuring during a time that is economically challenging. We look forward to supporting them while they create much needed jobs in Southwest Virginia.
CNX Resources has operated in Southwest Virginia since the early 1990s and is a premier independent low carbon intensity natural gas development, production, midstream and technology company centered in the Appalachian Basin, one of the largest, most efficient, and environmentally sustainable sources of natural gas in the world. Its mission is to embrace and drive innovative change, deliver energy solutions for today and tomorrow, and enhance the communities in which it operates. By collecting the gas which naturally occurs in coal seams, CNX is producing the clean natural gas that is critical to a low-cost, reliable, secure, lower-carbon energy future that benefits Virginians, workers, and the environment.
Under the terms of the agreement to retain the company’s regional headquarters in Virginia, the expansion project and the associated jobs and investment, the Tazewell County Industrial Development Authority purchased several parcels of land currently owned by CNX totaling approximately 121 acres near Tazewell High School. The $500,000 purchase price for the land paid by the IDA to CNX was utilized to help offset the cost of the improvements and renovations needed at the former Richlands Professional Building, which is now home to the new CNX Resources regional headquarters. At the same time, the deal allowed the IDA to obtain the Tazewell property it can use for future economic development. The IDA also made available an additional $400,000 to CNX Resources to further help with improvements and renovations at the Richlands Professional Building. CNX Resources has entered into a 15-year lease with RPB Properties on the Richlands Professional Building.
