Baton Rouge, LA - On September 20, 2024, Governor Jeff Landry announced the appointment of Misti Cordell as Chairwoman of the Louisiana Board of Regents. Misti was appointed to the board in January as an at-large member.

“Misti has the leadership, knowledge, and experience that is needed to lead the Board of Regents. I look forward to the great work she and the entire board will accomplish to better this state and our education system,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

“I am thankful for Governor Landry’s confidence in me to lead the Board of Regents. I am looking forward to working with all board members to bring innovative ideas to the table. I am committed to working with multiple groups to identify needs and find new ways to develop and grow higher education and meet workforce needs in Louisiana,” said Chairwoman Misti Cordell. “I would love to recruit students to our institutions and keep them in Louisiana as thriving members of our workforce.”

Background:

Misti Cordell currently serves as a Physician Recruiter for Affinity Health Group in Monroe. With an extensive background in rural health, her healthcare career started as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for AstraZeneca where she covered the territory between South Arkansas and South Louisiana.

Her experience in both healthcare and government has helped her connect healthcare organizations and administrators with state policymakers. This has been instrumental in forging a mutual understanding of the local healthcare structure and the policymaking process for the benefit of the community.

Misti currently serves on multiple boards including the Board of Directors for MedCamps of Louisiana, CenturyNext Bank Advisory Board, Board of Directors for Ouachita Parish Library, and the Advisory Board for the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum.

An advocate for adult learning and first-generation students, Misti’s mother was the first in her family to graduate college. She enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Monroe as a first-time, first-year student at 38 and graduated summa *** laude with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. With her mom as an inspiration to so many, her story has been a testament that it is never too late to seek an education.

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Misti resides in Monroe with her husband Hardeman. They are the proud parents of two sons: John, a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and current employee of Northwest Mutual, and Hank, who currently attends the University of Mississippi.
