Governor Landry Announces New Secretary of Louisiana Department of Health

Baton Rouge, LA - On April 11, 2025, Governor Jeff Landry announced that Bruce Greenstein will become Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health.  

“With his deep understanding of healthcare systems, from Medicaid to post-acute care, Bruce Greenstein’s appointment as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health marks a new era for Louisiana’s healthcare. There is no one more qualified than Bruce. I look forward to the great work he, Doctor Abraham, and the entire LDH team will do for the State of Louisiana,” said Gov. Landry. 

“Having served as Secretary of Health in Louisiana before, I know firsthand the unique challenges and opportunities our state faces. Now, as I step into this role again, I’m more committed than ever to building on the progress we’ve made and driving meaningful change. Together, we’ll continue to improve health outcomes and ensure that all Louisianans have access to the quality healthcare they deserve,” said Bruce Greenstein.

I congratulate him on his appointment by our Governor, and I will partner with Secretary Greenstein and the Louisiana Department of Health for the betterment of Louisiana,” said Congressman Clay Higgins.

Bio:

Bruce has spent the last 30 years in healthcare - split between the public and private sectors.  Today, he runs strategy and innovation at the nation’s largest post-acute care company.   

In 2017 and 2018, he was the CTO at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.  In state government, Bruce was the Health Secretary for Bobby Jindal in Louisiana, and before that he was running Microsoft’s worldwide health and human services business division.   

Prior to Microsoft, Bruce was at CMS overseeing Medicaid Managed Care and Waivers & Demonstrations.  He has run operations in behavioral health and spent time in venture capital and private equity and is on the boards of a publicly traded health care company, a health technology company, and two private equity companies addressing the home health market.   

Additionally, Bruce has been an advisor to the health informatics programs at George Washington University and the University of Louisiana.
