Governor Lombardo Urges President Biden to Cut Red Tape on Housing Projects

From: Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo
July 23, 2024

Las Vegas, NV - On July 23, 2024, Governor Joe Lombardo wrote to President Biden to reiterate his call for the White House to eliminate bureaucratic housing barriers, which are preventing Nevada communities from achieving their housing and economic development goals. Today’s letter follows previous calls from Governor Lombardo for President Biden to address the national housing crisis and inflation.

“Our communities have to rely on acts of Congress and costly, years-long processes that stand between project conception, land auction, and development in order to implement long-term planning goals and meet rapidly growing population demands,” said Governor Lombardo. “This is unworkable. Hardworking Nevadans should not have to continue to pay the price for federal inefficiencies.”

In his letter, Governor Lombardo notes that he has had conversations with the Department of the Interior, the Nevada congressional delegation, and regional stakeholders about this issue since first writing to President Biden in March.

To reiterate the statewide importance of eliminating federal red tape to President Biden, Governor Lombardo included letters in his correspondence from the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO), the Nevada League of Cities, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA), the Northern Nevada Regional Development Authority (NNRDA), the Lincoln County Regional Development Authority (LCRDA), the Nevada 95-80 Regional Development Authority, and the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA).

“Housing developers throughout the state are poised to add to Nevada's housing inventory, but we need a streamlined approach to the disposal of federal lands so they can get to work,” Governor Lombardo concluded. “I implore you to work with Nevada to create opportunities that address our needs so families can achieve the American dream of homeownership.”
