Leftists' No Kings Defiance Protests

June 12, 2025

In response to the No Kings Defiance Protests, the Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Amy Barela issued the following statement:

NEW MEXICO - “In light of the organized “No KINGS” protests reportedly scheduled in New Mexico, I want to reaffirm that the Republican Party of New Mexico fully supports the First Amendment rights to free speech and peaceful assembly. These freedoms are foundational to our republic.

June 14th is Flag Day-a day meant to honor the adoption of the American flag in 1777, and more importantly, to reflect on the values it represents: liberty, freedom, unity, and justice. It is not a day for flag burning, violence or tearing down the institutions that protect our constitutional rights.

What we have been witnessing in several cities across the nation-and potentially here in our own state-goes far beyond peaceful protest. Burning vehicles, vandalizing property, and violating public safety and order are not expressions of free speech; they are criminal acts. Such lawlessness has no place in a civil society and should never be tolerated or excused.

Sadly, we have been victims of violence and destruction at our own headquarters, such acts often encouraged or downplayed by Democrat leadership, both here in New Mexico and across the country. This type of political incitement only fuels division and chaos.

I call on all New Mexicans to rise above the destructive rhetoric and behavior we are seeing nationally. If demonstrations are to be held, let them be respectful, peaceful, and lawful-true reflections of the values the United States flag stands for.”

Amy Barela
Chairwoman, Republican Party of New Mexico
