MassGOP Calls Out Maura Healey's Failed Agenda as Jobless Rate Hits New High

BOSTON, MA - Massachusetts Republican Party Chair Amy Carnevale laid the blame on Governor Maura Healey after a new jobs report shows that the unemployment rate has hit the highest point throughout her time in office.

Labor data show that the statewide joblessness rate now sits at 4.8%, compared to 4.2% nationally. That’s the highest level since September 2021.

Furthermore, the current rate contrasts with a record low of 3.3% in April 2023, two months after Healey took office.

Carnevale pointed to new initiatives and policy decisions under the Healey administration that she says have undermined economic confidence and stifled growth across key sectors.

“Governor Healey inherited one of the strongest state economies in the country and has managed to reverse that progress in record time,” said Carnevale. “Her administration’s policies—ranging from a far-left green energy agenda to bloated spending and anti-business regulations—have created a climate of uncertainty that is driving employers and job creators out of Massachusetts.”

The MassGOP also highlighted the disconnect between the administration’s rhetoric and economic reality, noting that despite promises by Healey of inclusive growth and job creation, the results speak for themselves.

“Every month that passes under Governor Healey’s leadership brings more bad news for working families,” Carnevale continued. “Massachusetts residents are paying the price for a progressive agenda that prioritizes political talking points over sound economic management.”

The Massachusetts Republican Party is calling on the Governor to acknowledge the seriousness of the economic downturn and to take immediate steps to reverse course, such as reducing regulatory burdens, offering targeted tax relief, and engaging with the business community to rebuild confidence and foster job creation.

“The people of Massachusetts deserve better,” concluded Carnevale. “We need leadership that puts economic stability and opportunity first—not policies that chase headlines while residents struggle to find work.”
