Mississippi Ranks No. 3 for Jobs Created by Reshoring in 2025, No. 7 in 2024

From: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves
July 21, 2025

JACKSON, MS - Governor Tate Reeves on July 21 announced that Mississippi has been ranked among the top 10 states for jobs created by reshoring, according to the Reshoring Initiative’s 2024 and Q1 2025 report.

In 2024, according to the report, Mississippi ranked #7 in the country, having reshored 10,746 jobs. Projected data for 2025, based on Q1 information, places the state at #3, with 12,084 jobs being reshored.

“This is another really impressive accomplishment for Mississippi,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “We’re reclaiming thousand of jobs from overseas, which will result in a lot more opportunity for Mississippians. As global markets shift, Mississippi is setting records in economic development and breaking new ground across the state. We are truly helping strengthen America’s economy – and we’re just getting started. Mississippi continues to make history.”

Reshoring is the process of returning manufacturing and production jobs to the United States from overseas. It includes both domestic reshoring, in which U.S.-based companies move operations back to the U.S., and foreign direct investment, where international companies establish or expand manufacturing facilities in the U.S. Mississippi is among the top states benefiting from returning manufacturing jobs, according to the Reshoring Initiative report.

The trend in reshoring momentum is attributed to factors such as proximity to market, infrastructure improvements and the impact of tariffs and government incentives. Mississippi’s strategic location, productive workforce and pro-business policies have positioned the state as a leader in attracting domestic and international manufacturing investments.

“As Mississippi’s inbound FDI strategy forms a cornerstone of our broader economic development blueprint, we’ve been methodically priming the landscape since 2020 to dominate the global FDI battlefield,” said Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork. “This includes forging shovel-ready industrial sites and overhauling our tax incentives into a bold, investor-friendly arsenal. While reshoring marks is a key tactical engagement, the overarching campaign demands triumphing in the fierce worldwide race for capital inflows into America. Mississippi is claiming those wins, with this report underscoring our impressive track record of success.”

The key sectors driving reshoring growth include transportation equipment, electronics and wood and paper products. These industries are among those experiencing the highest year-over-year increases in reshoring activity, with transportation equipment jobs up 139%, wood and paper products up 172%, and plastics and rubber up 126%.
