RI GOP Chairman Calls Out RI Democrats for Blindly Bowing to Failed Leader Tim Walz

August 15, 2024

Warwick, RI - As Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visits Rhode Island, Joe Powers, Chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party, is urging Rhode Islanders to take a hard look at the failed leadership that Rhode Island Democrats are embracing without question.

“Governor Tim Walz has proven time and again that he is not the leader Rhode Island-or any state-needs. He inherited an $18 billion surplus, only to squander it, leaving Minnesota with a $2 billion deficit. Crime has surged by 22% under his watch, and his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic left countless small businesses in ruins,” said Chairman Powers. “Yet, despite this disastrous record, RI Democrats are feigning loyalty and bending their knee to him as if he’s a role model for our state.”

Powers also highlighted Walz’s mishandling of the George Floyd riots, which plunged Minnesota into chaos. “While Minnesota burned, Governor Walz played the role of Nero, fiddling as his state descended into violence and destruction, while his wife stood by inhaling the fumes of burning tires, a haunting image of leadership failure at its worst.”

Even more concerning, according to Powers, is Walz’s dishonesty about his military service. “Let me be clear, I’m not question Governor Walz’s military service, but I do question his integrity. He has been caught lying about his military record, a direct betrayal of the trust that the public places in their leaders.”

Powers warned that Rhode Islanders should be wary of following the path laid out by Walz and the Democrats who support him. “We need leaders who are honest, fiscally responsible, and committed to public safety. Unfortunately, Governor Walz has shown he is none of these things. It’s baffling that Rhode Island Democrats would so blindly promote a leader with such a clear record of failure.”
