RI Republican Chairman Condemns Recent Assisination Attempt on Pres. Donald Trump

September 16, 2024

Warwick, RI - In response to the recent assassination attempt on President Donald J. Trump, Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Joe Powers has issued a strong statement condemning the act and calling for an end to the dangerous political climate that has led to such violence.

“As details of this second attempt on President Trump’s life continue to unfold, I am incredibly thankful that no one was injured and that law enforcement acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect,” said Chairman Powers. “The quick response by the Secret Service and local police ensured the safety of the President, his family, and the surrounding community.”

Chairman Powers expressed growing concern over the escalating threats against President Trump, attributing much of the unrest to inflammatory rhetoric from political opponents. “This escalating pattern of aggression is alarming, and the continued rhetoric from the left needs to stop,” Powers stated. “The so-called ‘Party of Joy’ has labeled President Trump as a threat, and now some of their followers are resorting to violence rather than letting the American people decide at the ballot box, they are showing their true colors - and they’re not red, white and blue”

Powers urged Americans to reject political violence and focus on constructive dialogue and fair elections. “We live in a democracy, and political differences should be debated, not met with violence. This attempt on President Trump’s life shows the extreme lengths some will go to, and it must stop.”

The Rhode Island Republican Party continues to stand with President Trump and calls for an end to any and all acts of political violence.
