RPNM Chairwoman Responds to Gabe Vasquez False Narratives

June 9, 2025

NEW MEXICO - On Monday Congressman Gabe Vasquez attempted to lecture President Trumps Administration on Immigration reform on the heels of the riots in Los Angeles. RPNM Chairwoman Amy Barela responded in a statement:

“Congressman Gabe Vasquez continues to peddle false narratives while ignoring the real crisis caused by the Biden administration’s open-border policies. For nearly four years, our southern border has been overwhelmed, leading to skyrocketing crime, the flow of deadly fentanyl, and the exploitation of federal, state, and local resources-all while law-abiding American citizens are left to pay the price.

Unlike Representative Vasquez, who seems more concerned with protecting criminal illegal immigrants than ensuring the safety of New Mexicans, the Republican Party of New Mexico supports every legal and constitutional effort to secure our communities. No one wants military involvement on American soil, but this administration has failed to act for years-leaving our border vulnerable and our citizens in danger.

We agree immigration reform is long overdue, and we support a fair, legal pathway to citizenship. But that cannot happen in a system flooded by illegal entry. Until Democrats like Gabe Vasquez stop defending chaos and start defending the American people, we will continue to see deployments like this as a direct result of their failed leadership.”

Gabe Vasquez has done nothing for his Congressional District while in office. It’s time we elect a U.S. House of Representative that will represent and prioritize the needs of New Mexico.
