Statement from Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Alex Plechash on Radical Democrat Protests

May 15, 2025

Despite holding only a tie in the Minnesota House and a minority in the Senate, Republican leaders—Speaker Lisa Demuth and Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson—worked tirelessly to deliver a historic, bipartisan budget deal.

This agreement reins in government spending at record levels, protects Minnesota families from new tax increases, ends taxpayer-funded healthcare for adults in the country illegally, and ensures coverage remains in place for children.

Sadly, instead of engaging in the process, a radical group of Democrats is once again choosing to disrupt and divide. They are protesting, threatening Republicans, and trying to derail the very bipartisan compromise that Minnesotans deserve.

The Republican Party of Minnesota stands firmly behind our leaders who are working every day to restore common sense to state government.
