The Republican Party of Florida Files Complaint Against Radical Pro-Abortion ‘Yes On 4’ Political Committee For Violating Florida Law

October 29, 2024

On October 29, 2024, the Republican Party of Florida filed a complaint with the Florida Elections Commission against the radical, pro-abortion “Yes on 4” political committee that deceptively calls themselves “Floridians Protecting Freedom, Inc.”

The complaint calls out multiple unsolicited text messages sent by the political committee over the last three months advocating for Amendment 4, that fail to comply with Florida’s laws on political text messaging (Section 106.147, Florida Statutes) passed by the Florida legislature in 2021 and designed to provide transparency and accountability to voters relating to political text messaging.

Specifically, the complaint alleges that the text messages sent by the “Yes on 4” political committee failed to include any disclaimer informing voters who paid for the texts and also failed to include a link or URL to a website with a disclaimer and fail to include disclaimers on websites that expressly advocate for Amendment 4, each as required by Florida law.  The “Yes on 4” political committee has reported spending upwards of $95 million advocating for Amendment 4, including thousands of dollars on text messages.

The complaint filed by the RPOF requests the Florida Elections Commission to initiate an investigation into the political committee’s unlawful acts.

“Just because they use “freedom” in their name does not mean they are free to violate the law yet that is what Floridians Protecting Freedom, Inc. has been doing by sending repeated text messages without proper disclosures as required under Florida statute.  We aren’t surprised, deception is the name of the game when it comes to Amendment 4 which will strip parental rights over their children, exclude medical doctors from the process, and lead to taxpayer funding of abortions-on-demand. “Yes on 4” is not upfront with Florida voters, but we will make sure they follow the law,” said Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power.
