Middletown - This past week, US Senator Chris Murphy and other Senate Democrats met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly before he met with President Donald Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office. At that meeting, Senator Chris Murphy, leading the Senate Democrat meeting, urged Zelensky to reject the mineral rights agreement the Trump & Zelensky administrations had negotiated.
“Senator Murphy and the Senate Democrats need to understand their role,” said Republican State Chairman Ben Proto. “Murphy and his fellow Senate Democrats purposely urged President Zelensky to reject an agreement that his administration negotiated in good faith with the United States. This action usurped their role as members of one house in the legislative branch and was an attempt to install the Senate Democrats as the foreign policymakers for the United States.”
“Senator Murphy, for as much as he dreams every night of having the title of President, is not in charge of foreign policy for the United States. His and his fellow Democrats’ actions have made Ukraine and the Ukrainian people more unsafe in order to stroke their own egos. Their actions in urging Zelensky to reject the agreement, and the Ukrainian President actually taking their advice, embarrassed President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people in the Oval Office but, more importantly, removed any economic interest the US may have had in Ukraine once the agreement was signed, which offered protection for Ukraine and her citizens” continued Proto.
“Chris Murphy is so blinded by his ambition that he was willing to give foolish advice simply to try to hurt President Trump’s standing, not only here in the US but across the globe. His quest for relevancy has made the world a more dangerous place, has emboldened our enemies, and could put American military personnel in harm’s way.”
“President Trump overwhelmingly won the election in November 2024, and no amount of sabotaging from Chris Murphy or his allies will change that fact. I want to offer a bit of advice for Connecticut’s Junior Senator: American foreign policy is left in the hands of the President to shape Chris; it’s time to stop fighting and creating division within our government and among our citizens simply to score cheap political points. America and Connecticut deserve better from you!” concluded Proto.
