State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan Arrested Again for Shoplifting Chairman Ben Proto: 'It's Time for Accountability'

July 29, 2025

Middletown, CT - State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan has once again been arrested—this time on additional charges of larceny. Just weeks ago, Allie-Brennan was arrested for shoplifting from a Target store. At that time, he claimed he was rushing to deliver items to his hospitalized grandmother.

“When will Connecticut Democrats stop flouting the law?” asked Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Ben Proto. “Representative Allie-Brennan swore an oath to uphold the law—yet here he is, again, charged with breaking it. And to make matters worse, he used his grandmother as a shield for his criminal behavior. It’s disgraceful.”

The Connecticut Democratic Party has been silent, or worse, dismissive. Governor Ned Lamont’s weak-kneed response, essentially saying if he promises not to do it again, it’s fine, is an insult to every honest, law-abiding citizen in this state and a slap in the face to the people of Danbury and Bethel.

“Let me be blunt,” said Proto. “This is not a one-time lapse in judgment. It’s a pattern. Multiple arrests. Ongoing criminal behavior. And he remains in office, collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck, enjoying perks and privileges, while betraying the trust of the people he was elected to serve.”

Chairman Proto called on Democratic leadership to take immediate action. “Governor Lamont, Speaker Ritter, Democrat State Party Chairman Alves (who also happens to be the Mayor of Danbury, one of the very cities Allie-Brennan represents) must finally put the people of Connecticut ahead of their political loyalties. I demand Speaker Ritter strip Representative Allie-Brennan of all committee assignments, remove him from any leadership roles, and end any additional compensation or perks tied to those positions. More importantly, Representative Allie-Brennan must resign. His continued presence in the General Assembly is a stain on the institution.”

“The people of Bethel and Danbury, as well as all of Connecticut, deserve better. They deserve a representative who reflects their values and principles, not someone who treats the law as an inconvenience. Representative Allie-Brennan isn’t just an embarrassment; he’s a liability. And once again, the Connecticut Democrat Party is proving to the public exactly why Americans are abandoning them in droves.”

“This isn’t complicated,” concluded Proto. “Representative Allie-Brenna was arrested AGAIN for stealing. If Connecticut Democrats can’t see the problem with that, then they are the problem.”
