CONCORD, NH – Governor Kelly Ayotte on July 29 recognized New Hampshire's top national ranking in WalletHub's 2025 "Best & Worst States for Health Care" report, which names the Granite State the best in the country for overall health care. The annual report evaluates states based on cost, access, and outcomes using 44 key indicators.

New Hampshire earned the highest overall score in the country, ranking 2nd in cost, 15th in access, and 2nd in outcomes, placing it ahead of every other state in the nation.

"Our quality of life in New Hampshire is unlike anywhere else in the nation. I'm proud that we've received yet another #1 ranking and that we remain the best state in the nation for families, seniors, and everyone in between to live a healthy life. As Governor, I will continue to prioritize policies that strengthen our health care workforce, expand access to care, and keep costs low for New Hampshire families," said Governor Kelly Ayotte.

According to the report, New Hampshire has the lowest average monthly health insurance premium in the nation, at approximately $470, and the fourth-lowest out-of-pocket medical costs. The state also leads in access to frontline care, with the fifth-highest number of nurses per capita, the sixth-highest number of physician assistants, and the most urgent care centers per capita certified by the Urgent Care Association of America.

"This national recognition is a testament to New Hampshire's commitment to building a health care system that works for its people," said Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt. "From lower premiums to strong public health outcomes, Granite Staters are seeing the real benefits of a competitive insurance market, informed consumers, and effective oversight."

"New Hampshire's top ranking in health care is a result of the dedication of our staff, healthcare providers, public health leaders, and community partners around the state," said Health and Human Services Commissioner Lori Weaver. "When Granite Staters have access to high-quality health care, it leads to less chronic disease and healthier communities. We're committed to working with our partners to continue strengthening the systems and resources that support the health and well-being of all New Hampshire residents."

The WalletHub analysis also highlights the state's strong public health profile. New Hampshire ranks second-lowest in type-2 diabetes prevalence, third-lowest in stroke prevalence, and fifth-lowest in coronary heart disease.
