Governor Reeves Appoints John Weddle to the Mississippi Court of Appeals

JACKSON, MS - Governor Tate Reeves September 25, 2024 announced the appointment of John Weddle of Saltillo as Judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals, District 1, Position 1. This appointment fills a vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Jim M. Greenlee.

“I’m proud to appoint John as a judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “His years of legal experience and public service make him an excellent addition to the court. I look forward to seeing the good things John will accomplish on behalf of Mississippians”

Weddle has been a practicing attorney since 1995. He has served as the District Attorney for the First Circuit Court Judicial District since 2015 and is on the Mississippi Corrections and Criminal Justice Task Force. Weddle previously served as Public Defender for Lee County, Municipal Court Judge for Tupelo, and an Assistant District Attorney for the First Circuit Court Judicial District. He has held a range of leadership positions including Mississippi Prosecutor’s Association President and Treasurer, as well as a Special Assistant District Attorney, where he focused on crimes against women and children.

Weddle earned a J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law and a B.A. from Mississippi State University.

Weddle’s term will begin on October 14, 2024. Governor Reeves will call a special election to be held on November 3, 2026. The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the eight-year term.
