Governors Coalition For Energy Security Commends Epa Administrator Zeldin On Efforts To Eliminate Wasteful Spending

From: Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry
April 1, 2025

BATON ROUGE, LA - The Governors Coalition for Energy Security (GCES) today sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, commending his recent actions to eliminate wasteful federal funding that has supported ideologically-driven campaigns designed to undermine American jobs and economic growth.

In the letter, the governors expressed concern about the negative impact on their communities when out-of-state interest groups come into their states to drive policies that impede energy projects and infrastructure. Letter attached.

"Our jobs are only made harder when the federal government helps finance efforts to undermine energy infrastructure, petrochemical projects, and economic development in our states, the governors wrote. “We are concerned about the harm to our communities as we continue to uncover the billions of dollars that out-of-state interest groups and wealthy individuals have flooded into our states to push their preferred agendas – too often at the expense of hardworking Americans. We are certain you can appreciate the compounding effect when the federal government becomes a bank for financing those campaigns.”

"The wasteful spending that Administrator Zeldin has uncovered at the EPA was clearly intended to target energy producers and the petrochemical industry," the governors and members say in the letter. "While these misguided efforts will continue beyond the EPA's control, our coalition is prepared to help address and defend against the onslaught of resources being utilized in our states to undermine economic growth.”

GCES stands ready to work with Administrator Zeldin to achieve the goals of reducing wasteful spending, improving the environment, and responsibly permitting and developing projects that benefit American workers and the economy.

GCES is committed to ensuring families and businesses have the right to choose the energy they need, to minimize permitting and other regulatory barriers, limit expensive energy mandates, focus on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure, and to coordinate to positively manage energy resources and the environment.
