McConnell Secures Over $1.5 Million for Bowman Field Airport

April 25, 2023

The funding comes from the FY23 Airport Improvement Program, which Senator McConnell supported in this year’s government funding bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide $1,559,314 through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to fund infrastructure projects at Bowman Field Airport in Louisville, Kentucky.

Today’s grant announcement will fund improvements to Bowman Field’s airport infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of runways and the installation of runway lighting.

Senator McConnell advocated for AIP funding in this year’s government funding bill, which he helped craft as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill passed the Senate and became law at the end of last year.

“Kentucky’s airports, big and small, are an indispensable component of our Commonwealth’s modern transportation infrastructure. I was proud to help secure this funding to ensure Bowman Field is prepared for the current and future demands of air travel,” said Senator McConnell.

“Louisville continues to benefit from these important federal investments in our city’s infrastructure. This funding is crucial to help us continue to invest in and invigorate Bowman Field. We appreciate Senator McConnell’s advocacy through the appropriations process in helping to secure these funds,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director, of Louisville Regional Airport Authority.
