Montana Ranked Second Most Patriotic State

From: Montana Governor Greg Gianforte

HELENA, MT - Governor Greg Gianforte On July 2, 2025 announced Montana was ranked as the second most patriotic state in the nation.

“Ahead of Independence Day, it’s great to recognize the Treasure State as one of the most patriotic states in the nation,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Freedom, integrity, independence, and patriotism are all qualities that embody our great state. God bless America!”

According to a ranking released by WalletHub, Montana was ranked second, behind Virginia. The order was determined by comparing states across 13 key indicators of patriotism, ranging from the state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election.

“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst. “Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area - the top states are located in vastly different geographic regions.”

The ranking determined Montana as second in part due to large voter turnout with 69.2% of the state’s voting population turning out for the 2024 presidential election, and nearly 46% voting in the 2020 primary election - the highest primary turnout in the country.

In the measure for veterans per capita, Montana ranked as the fourth highest, behind Alaska, Virgina, and Wyoming. In its report, WalletHub indicates the Treasure State has 102 veterans for every 1,000 civilians.
