On Holocaust Remembrance Day

April 18, 2023

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Co-Chair of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, today issued the following statement on “Yom HaShoah”—Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“Today, we remember the over 6 million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered at the hands of hate in the Holocaust and mourn in solidarity with their surviving family members and loved ones.

We also pay tribute to the countless survivors who suffered the unfathomable evil perpetrated by the Nazi regime and endured with extraordinary courage and character.

Tragically, the same antisemitic hate that fueled Nazi persecution against innocent Jews plagues the world today.

A recent report by the Anti-Defamation League revealed antisemitic violence has surged to levels never before recorded in the United States—with New Jersey ranking among the three states with the most incidents in the nation.

On this solemn day, we must bolster our efforts to prevent and combat this pernicious hatred—which is unparalleled since the darkest days of the Second World War—and to defeat antisemitism in all of its evil manifestations.”
