RPMN Chair Alex Plechash On Governor Walz's State Of The State Address

April 23, 2025

“On April 23, 2025 Night, Governor Tim Walz delivered his State of the State Address. As expected, it was full of applause lines, distractions, and spin-but sorely lacking in truth. What Minnesotans needed to hear tonight wasn’t polished rhetoric. They needed accountability. They needed a plan. And they didn’t get it.

Here’s the real State of the State under Tim Walz:

Our education system is failing. Despite record-breaking spending, Minnesota students are falling below national averages-and most can’t meet basic grade-level standards. This isn’t limited to a few districts. It’s a crisis that stretches across our entire state and threatens an entire generation’s future.

Our financial well-being is crumbling. Walz took a $18 billion surplus and turned it into a multi-billion-dollar deficit. He raised taxes by $10 billion, and still managed to leave Minnesota in worse shape than before. The math doesn’t lie-but Walz won’t talk about that.

Our government is plagued by mismanagement and corruption. From the Feeding Our Future scandal to the $3 billion boondoggle of Southwest Light Rail, from staffers getting away with felony vandalism to two DFL Senators-one facing felony charges-refusing to step down, Walz’s administration is defined by fraud, failure, and favoritism.

Even tonight, he refused to address how his party handed $600 million in free healthcare to illegal immigrants while slashing over $1 billion from nursing homes. Seniors suffer, but radical policies get rewarded.

This isn’t leadership-it’s political cronyism at its worst. Walz didn’t tell Minnesotans the truth tonight. But the Minnesota Republican Party will.

We believe in a better path-one where government works for the people, where kids succeed in school, where budgets balance without burdening working families, and where public officials are held accountable to the same laws as everyone else.

The ‘State of Walz’ is failure. But with your help, we’ll write a different story for Minnesota-one rooted in accountability, integrity, and common-sense leadership.”
