Sanders Calls For a Convention in Johnson County To Fill the Vacancy of the Republican Party Nominee for Justice of the Peace, District 5

A PROCLAMATION CALLING FOR A CONVENTION TO FILL THE VACANCY IN NOMINATION FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NOMINEE FOR THE JOHNSON COUNTY OFFICE OF JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, DISTRICT 5.
 
WHEREAS: On March 15, 2024, the Johnson County Election Commission certified the results of the March 5, 2024, primary election for, among other things, the Republican Party nominee for the Johnson County office of the Justice of the Peace, District 5; 
 
WHEREAS: The Johnson County Election Commission certified that the Honorable Jeremy Hatchet became the Republican nominee at the primary election; 
 
WHEREAS: The Republican Nominee for the Johnson County Justice of the Peace, District 5, has formally withdrawn from the General Election as a result of unavoidable illness, creating a vacancy in nomination for that office; and 
 
WHEREAS: The Republican Party of Arkansas timely notified me of the vacancy in nomination for the Republican Party nominee for the Johnson County office of the Justice of the Peace, District 5, and indicated that the Party chooses to fill the vacancy in nomination by convention.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, acting under the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim as follows:

- A special convention of delegates of the Johnson County Republican Committee shall be held no later than Tuesday, August 20, 2024, for the purpose of filling the vacancy in nomination for the Republican Party nominee for the Johnson County office of the Justice of the Peace, District 5.

- The period for filing for candidacy as a party candidate with the Johnson County Clerk for the special convention shall commence at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The deadline for filing as a party candidate shall be 12:00 noon on Monday, August 19, 2024.

- Upon approval of a convention by the appropriate County Party Committee for the nominee of the Republican Party for Johnson County office of the Justice of the Peace, District 5, the Johnson County Committee for the Republican Party of Arkansas shall provide a certificate of nomination to the Johnson County Election Commission, and to the Johnson County Clerk no later than August 21, 2024. 

- All of the deadlines and requirements shall be as provided for by the applicable election laws of this State.
