Senators Murphy And Blumenthal Once Again Oppose Making Women's Sports Safe For Women Athletes

March 4, 2025

Middletown - On March 3, 2025 Night, Senate Democrats including Connecticut’s own Senators Chris Murphy and Dick Blumenthal, voted to block the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would have kept men out of women’s sports.

“This shameful vote by Senators Murphy and Blumenthal is just the latest in a series of Democrat resistance to Republican-led initiatives to keep women’s sports safe and fair,” said Republican State Chairman Ben Proto. “Here on the state level, Connecticut Democrats in the State House voted down a Republican amendment requiring the State Department of Education and CIAC to develop a plan to keep biological men out of women’s sports pursuant to President Trump’s executive orders. It’s also no secret that Attorney General William Tong has been fighting to ensure that our daughters and granddaughters are not safe in the sports activities they seek to play and excel.”

“No matter your political affiliation, we should all agree that biological men have no place in women’s sports. This is not only a matter of fairness and equality for women but also about safety.”

“Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal and the Senate Democrats’ decision to block bills that keep men out of women’s sports simply defies common sense. In fact, it also defies public opinion. According to a recent New York Times poll, 79% of Americans believe that biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, including 67% of Democrats and 94% of Republicans,” said Proto. “Clearly Senators Murphy and Blumenthal, along with Speaker Matt Ritter, Senator Martin Looney, and the entire Connecticut Democrat Party not only don’t care what the people of Connecticut want to see from their government but more alarming is their complete disregard for the safety of Connecticut’s female athletes.”

“It really makes you wonder how, in the face of a clear consensus from the American people, Democrats can be so deaf and blind to the realities the American public voted for in November. They have allowed their hatred of President Trump and their disdain for the will of the people who voted against their progressive agenda to cloud their judgment and remove all common sense from their actions. Unfortunately, they have become so twisted in their far-left agenda that they have convinced themselves that allowing biological men to play against women is actually good for women,” said Proto.

“Rest assured that Republicans, both here in Connecticut as well as in our nation’s capital, will continue to stand up for women and ensure women’s sports are safe and fair and that no biological man will again stand on a podium to accept the accolades right due a young woman who has competed fairly, ethically and within the rules of the competition only to see her glory stolen by a man” concluded Proto.
