RALEIGH - The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) responds to the vetoes today of common sense, responsible legislation by radical liberal Gov. Josh Stein:
Charter School Changes (SB 254)
Democrats are still engaged in a war on school choice. Protecting charter schools and giving the Charter School Review Board more oversight directly over them shouldn't be controversial. The shameful rhetoric opposing the opportunity for every family to choose an education plan that works best for them continues with Gov. Stein.
The Power Bill Reduction Act (HB 266)
Only in the minds of the radical Left is this veto a good idea. Republicans stand on the side of the working men and women of our state and ending arbitrary, artificial requirements in energy production. As has been long been the case in North Carolina, Republicans work to reduce taxes and cost-of-living for families and Democrats seek to enact a woke agenda to make life more unaffordable for families and businesses.
Clarify Powers of State Auditor (HB 549)
Auditor Boliek is right: HB 549 was written to protect the independence of the State Auditor's Office. Gov. Stein's veto once again shows Democrats are more concerned with political power than ensuring our state's elected Council of State officials can successfully fulfill their duties. As with the other bills, we look forward to the General Assembly overriding this veto.
