U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth Has Done More for NM

June 12, 2025

In response to the Gabe Vasquez challenging the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth’s efforts to keep New Mexico safe from drugs and human trafficking flooding the border in the congressional district he represents, the Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Amy Barela issued the following statement:

NEW MEXICO - ““Gabe Vasquez wants you to believe he cares about keeping you safe, but his voting record tells a completely different story.  He voted against President Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill - that means he voted for raising taxes on hardworking New Mexicans and against hiring 10,000 new ICE personnel and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents.  Voters in New Mexico will remember that he voted to make our country less secure, in addition to take more money out of their paychecks.””
