AZGOP Applauds SCOTUS Ruling in Virginia as Momentum in Fight for Election Integrity Across the Nation

October 30, 2024

PHOENIX, AZ - The AZGOP commends the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to allow Virginia to remove self-identified noncitizens from its voter rolls - a win for election integrity and an important precedent for safeguarding our democratic process.

This landmark ruling is especially significant for Arizona, where our party has led the charge to protect the integrity of our voter rolls and prevent noncitizens from casting ballots. Just as Virginia defended its right to maintain accurate and lawful voter lists, Arizona is engaged in a similar battle with Mi Familia Vota v. Fontes, where we are challenging attempts to undercut HB 2492, a critical Arizona law requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration. In this case, our efforts received a partial stay upheld by the Supreme Court earlier this year.

AZGOP Chair Gina Swoboda issued the following statement:

“The Virginia ruling is a victory for the entire nation. It proves that Americans - regardless of state - will not allow politically motivated interference to dilute the voices of eligible citizens. Arizona has taken a strong stand to ensure that our elections are fair and accurate, and we are encouraged by the Supreme Court’s recognition of this fundamental principle.”

The AZGOP believes that clean, lawful voter rolls are essential to upholding the voting rights of all citizens. Like Virginia, Arizona remains committed to enforcing voter qualifications that uphold the values of transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

This ruling reinforces our resolve to see HB 2492 upheld, and we look forward to continuing this fight for election integrity and the protection of every legal voter’s voice.
