Connecticut Republican Party Statement On Presidential Debate

September 11, 2024

MIDDLETOWN - On September 10, 2024 Night President Donald Trump and Vice-President Kamala Harris met for the first time to discuss the issues facing America, Americans and the world. The debate, allegedly moderated by David Muir and Lindsey Davis of ABC News, showed stark differences between the two candidates.

“Last night we saw a Kamala Harris that seems to have been created out of whole cloth” said Connecticut Republican Chairman Ben Proto. “She acted as if she had nothing to do with the horrific policies of the past 3+ years of the Biden-Harris administration. It’s as if she was absent from an administration that created record inflation, has seen an increase in crime, and a border policy, or lack of one, that has allowed tens of millions of people to cross our border in complete and total violation of our laws – including, murderers, rapists, drug dealers, none of whom would be allowed to enter our country legally if they sought to come to our country through our immigration process” continued Proto.

“Under the Biden-Harris administration, food prices are up 21%, rent is up 22%, energy costs have increased by more than 33% – at an even higher rate in Connecticut, interest rates have more than doubled, young families can’t afford to buy a house, seniors can’t afford to retire, and the middle class is shrinking. Unfortunately, the moderators choose not to fact check Vice President Harris on any of those issues.”

“She often spewed lies about the Trump administration’s accomplishments while ignoring the failures of her own administration. In short, she couldn’t provide an answer to a simple question, “are you better off today than you were four years ago” because she knows, as do Americans, that answer is a resounding NO. Her attempts to change her positions on domestic policies like creating an energy independent America, her support for the criminal acts that occurred across the country during 2020, her lack of a plan to bring down inflation and get spending under control haven’t fooled the American people. Her lack of assistance for innocent hostages in Israel, her failure to broker negotiations which led to the war in Ukraine, and her inaction to solve the border crisis which has caused the deaths of countless Americans due to fentanyl overdoses have all made America less safe. Her failed record should leave the people of America very scared for what four years of a Harris-Walz administration will do to them” continued Proto.

“I’m sure the pundits and the liberals will want to harp on Donald Trump’s mannerism, which are well known to the American people. The facts speak for themselves – under President Trump’s administration, America was thriving. More Americans held good paying jobs; inflation was under control; people could afford to pay every day expenses; home ownership, particularly among African-Americans and Hispanics, was at an all-time high; there were no wars; American military personnel were not being led into death traps or left behind to die; there were historic increases to funding at HBCUs; and the list can go on and on. That is the country Americans need again and that is what Donald Trump presented last night” concluded Proto.
