Republicans Tackle CCP Connected Companies Using Forced Labor

CHICAGO - A top priority for House Republicans as Congress reconvenes is holding China accountable and combatting Chinese encroachment in American industries and working to regulate the companies employing horrific practices like forced slave labor – including those with Illinois connections.

Keep a close eye on how Illinois Democrats vote on bills related to electric vehicle manufacturers Gotion and CATL. Will they side with Gotion, an electric vehicle manufacturer with ties to the Chinese Communist Party given billions in taxpayer subsidies by Governor Pritzker? Or will they side with Illinois taxpayers to curb the influence of China in the electric vehicle industry?

Gotion has been accused of utilizing materials from CCP companies known for “prolific use” of forced labor, forced relocations, and connections to paramilitary organizations sanctioned for contributions to the Uyghur Genocide. Illinois Representative Darin LaHood signed on to a letter from the Select Committee on the CCP laying out the horrific connections of Gotion and calling on the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force to step in.

“Illinois Democrats will reveal a lot about themselves in the coming days; they have stood silently while Governor Pritzker cheers for monstrous companies like Gotion who are connected to the CCP and harnessing materials from companies employing slave labor and contributing to the genocide of Uyghurs. In just a few short weeks, Illinois voters will be faced with a choice for what kind of leaders they want representing them – Republicans like Congressman LaHood who have stood up to the Chinese Communist Party or Democrats like Governor Pritzker that enable their abuses,” said ILGOP Chair Kathy Salvi.
