We the People Prevailed

July 1, 2025

The Oregon Republican Party proudly joins Oregonians across the state in celebrating the defeat of House Bill 2025-one of the most harmful and overreaching tax proposals in Oregon’s history. Together, with hearts and voices united, we made our voices heard.

We are deeply proud of the thousands of Oregonians who stood up for their families, their businesses, and their communities, and insisted that their legislators listen. This outcome is proof that when constituents rise up in large numbers to contact their legislators, We the People can prevail, even when the odds seem stacked against us.

With Republicans holding a superminority in the Legislature, this outcome was never guaranteed. We are especially proud of the tireless work of our Republican legislators, who persevered in their commitment to protect Oregonians from crushing tax burdens. The Oregon Republican Party was honored to support their efforts and work alongside our grassroots base and key partner organizations to amplify awareness and mobilize public opposition to this disastrous bill.

HB 2025 would have added over $11 billion in new taxes and fees over the next decade, at a time when Oregon families are already struggling with high inflation, record housing and costof-living expenses, and one of the nation’s largest tax burdens.

The defeat of HB 2025 is a major victory for every Oregonian who believes in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and putting the needs of working families first. It is also a reminder that no matter how deep the blue, when people come together and demand accountability, we can make a difference.
