On July 01, 2025, Governor Kevin Stitt announced the appointment of Robert J. Getchell as district judge for Office 1 of the 24th Judicial District, serving Creek County.

“Robert brings nearly four decades of high-level legal experience and a deep respect for the rule of law to Creek County,” said Governor Stitt. “Robert's successful career in private practice has earned him a stellar reputation- honorable, level-headed and fair. He’s an excellent pick for the job and I’m confident he’ll serve with integrity.”

Getchell is a shareholder at GableGotwals and has almost 40 years of broad legal experience. Having spent 20 years as a staff attorney and general counsel for abstract and title companies, Getchell specialized in every area of transactional real estate. He is also a talented litigator, having represented various individual, investment, and corporate clients, including some of the country’s largest banks, in state courts. Getchell recently concluded seven years of service on the Oklahoma Abstracters Board, including serving a term as chairman.

Notably, Getchell has earned Lawyer of the Year for real estate and the Best Lawyer Award for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights for seven years in a row.

“This appointment is a tremendous honor and I’m grateful to Governor Stitt for the opportunity to serve the state that I love,” said Getchell. “I’ve spent my career fighting for fairness in the courtroom, and I’m ready to bring that same dedication to the bench. As a judge, my commitment will be to justice, impartiality, and the consistent application of the law.”

Getchell earned both a Bachelor of Arts in History and Juris Doctor from Oral Roberts University in 1982 and 1985, respectively. Getchell and his wife, Christie, have lived in the Tulsa area for more than 46 years and have raised eight children between them.
