Hann Denounces Hypocracy By Senate DFL In Allowing Sen. Nicole Mitchell To Vote

May 9, 2024

Minneapolis, MN - Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann issued the following statement denouncing the hypocrisy of the Minnesota Senate DFL by allowing DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell to continue to vote in the Minnesota Senate despite Sen. Mitchell being relieved of her committee assignments and removed from caucus meetings.

“The Senate DFL’s decision to bar DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell from participating in committees and caucus meetings, yet allowing her to vote on the floor, is a glaring contradiction that reeks of hypocrisy.

DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell and the Senate DFL’s prioritization of power over the welfare of the people of Minnesota is not just disappointing, it’s a disgrace.

By allowing DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell to cast votes, despite the serious ethical concerns surrounding her, the Senate DFL is eroding the integrity and fairness that Minnesotans rightly demand from their elected representatives.”

It is worth noting that the DFL’s own constitution and bylaws explicitly prohibit harmful and unwanted behaviors - which Mitchell’s actions most certainly are – and also outline disciplinary actions that the DFL will take if members display these actions: “Any form of aggression, harassment, harmful, or unlawful behavior is a violation of the DFL Code of Conduct and is subject to the Code of Conduct review process.” Since the DFL Senate is refusing to hold Mitchell accountable, when will the DFL Party enforce its own code of conduct?
