RPNM Statement on 'Comrade Kamala's' Communist Economic Proposals

August 16, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE - On August 16, 2024, Kamala Harris unveiled part of her economic plan to combat inflation, but it reads more like it was written by Stalin, Maduro, or Castro than someone running to be President of the United States.

Most concerning was her proposal to target “price gouging” by implementing price controls—a failed economic policy implemented in socialist and communist countries that has had devastating consequences.

Additionally, Harris blamed corporate greed for national price increases, which numerous economists, including the Federal Reserve, have debunked.

Even the traditionally liberal Washington Post criticized her policy as “communist,” saying, “It’s hard to exaggerate how bad this policy is” and warned that “supply and demand would no longer determine prices or profit levels. Far-off Washington bureaucrats would.”

The reality is Kamala had three and a half years to improve the economy, and she failed. Why would we trust her to do a better job now?

Under Kamala’s watch:

– The average New Mexican household is paying $1,018 more per month to purchase goods and services than in January 2021.

– The average New Mexican household is spending $114 more on energy per month and has spent $4,846 more on energy due to inflation since January 2021.

– The average New Mexican household is spending $131 more on food per month and has spent $3,436 more on food due to inflation since January 2021.

– The average New Mexican household has spent $28,181 more overall due to inflation since January 2021.

– Nearly half of Americans consider themselves “broke.”

– Nearly two-thirds of Americans report living paycheck-to-paycheck—up 8 points from last year.
61% of Americans believe the economy is on the wrong track and 60% think the economy is weak.

– Overall prices are up over 20%, food prices are up over 21%, rent is up 22%, and electricity has skyrocketed 31.7%.

– Credit card debt is at an all-time high.
By 2-to-1, Americans believe they will be better off financially under Trump.

Harris and Walz form the most radical left-wing ticket in history, and the chaos we’re experiencing in the economy, at the border, and with crime will only get worse if they are elected.

The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce:
“Kamala Harris has proposed communist-style price controls that have historically led to food shortages, bread lines, and economic devastation. Kamala spent the past three and a half years approving massive spending bills that led to printing trillions of dollars, driving up inflation and making everything more expensive. Kamala attributed inflated prices to price gouging when the real problem is her and the economy-killing policies she supported as vice president. During President Trump’s administration, inflation was low, energy was affordable, real wages were rising, and the American Dream was more attainable than ever. New Mexicans are going to remember this at the polls in November.”
